FAQ

  • Are these really made on a 3d printer?

Yes they are. Each item begins as a 3d-model. In a CAD program that model is made into a digital file that a 3d slicer will then prepare for printing. Now, a CAD program is an “computer aided design” software, and a slicer is the software used by the printer to give the printer its print instructions. These files are available from their creators via 3d printing websites.

  • How long have I been involved in tech?

I used my first computer - an early Tandy - over 50 years ago while still in school. In the military I used computers and was trained as a pilot which involved a large amount of the use and understanding of tech. The last aircraft I flew in the service had 8 onboard computers! Over 3 decades ago I began building, upgrading, and maintaining desktops computers. Since 2004 I have never bought a new personal computer, but built my own from parts!

  • How long have you been printing 3d gifts?

I began following 3d printing some years ago when it was first announced and demonstrated. Over the next few years I read about and researched the subject whenever possible. About 4 years ago, I purchased my first printer - a small beginner model - and started printing. The first few projects didn’t turn out perfectly, but were great for learning and gaining experience.

  • Where does my company name come from?

That is a rather long story… but in essence I have thought of, and rejected, 100’s of possible names for months before I began this enterprise. A good friend’s daughter looked at the gifts I make and began to exclaim over them… She saw that I was making gifts that will produce memories in ways that encourage the positive remembrance of the past and present; and were hand-crafted pieces of modern tech. She emailed me the suggestion that became my company name! Henceforth, “new craftsmanship” was born!

  • Are your gifts custom and handmade?

Yes, to the extent that any 3d print can be. All begin as slicer files (see explanation above), and after all the pieces are printed successfully (doesn’t always happen!), then they are assembled, glued, or flocked as the case may be. Many of the items we sell require all three.

  • These gifts are personal...

For me, I place my heart and soul into the making and giving of every gift that is made and given. There are no shortcuts, half-jobs, or sloppy work to what I make. All these are personal to me, and I believe very loved and personal to those who have received them.

  • Do they come with a guarantee?

Yes, with limited exception noted below, all items are guaranteed to be without defects and in good working order. Some items can be fragile and easily broken by rough handling, and all items may have small imperfects from being handmade. Those two cases are not covered. Any broken items not fitting those two exclusion can be returned for a full refund or, if desired, a new item will be re-crafted and shipped to you for free.

  • A word about shipping...

I live and work in a rural area where the big shipping companies can have trouble finding my address. Unless you desire, and are willing to pay any extra charges, all items will be shipped USPS as expeditiously as possible. Normally, there is a small charge of $15 on all orders.
